SLATER — Host Ballard showed little mercy to Perry Friday, eliminating the Bluejays, 17-1, in four innings of Class 3A Substate 7 baseball.

Perry (2-14) was on the board with a run in the first inning. Kato Dougan was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Gavin Hegstrom RBI single, the only base hit for the Bluejays.

Ballard (11-6) wasted little time in deciding the issue, plating five runs in the first frame and four more in the second. The Bombers tacked on five more runs in the third and then put the game away with three tallies in the bottom of the fourth.

Kyler Watson had two doubles, a single and three RBIs with Nic Edwards added two doubles and three RBIs while Kade Reinertson had a triple and two RBIs.

Three pitchers combined for mound duties for the hosts.

Avery Meister started for Perry, tossing 3-2/3 frames. He allowed 14 runs (seven of which were earned) on 13 hits. The senior walked three, hit one and struck out one.

Dougan went one inning, allowing three runs on a walk and three hits.

The loss ends the prep careers of seniors Dougan, Meister and Keghan West.

It was also the last game at Perry for head coach Aaron Lyons, who recently resigned all his positions at the school.
