BOONE — The damage was done at the top, as the first three hitters in the Boone lineup finished a combined 8-for-11 to power the Toreadors to a 12-2 six-inning win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference baseball Thursday.

Danny Anderson had two hits and scored two runs, Tanner Schminke had two singles, a double and a triple and Jackson Hull had a single and a double to guide the way. The threesome combined for five RBIs and five steals while scoring six times.

Perry, trailing 4-0, halved their deficit with two runs in the top of the fourth. Adan Medina singled but was forced at second when Alex Long reached on a fielder’s choice. Singles from Alexis Garrido and Brandon Kenyon moved Long to third, from where he scored on a passed ball, with Garrido scoring after an Aaron Lockwood sacrifice on a Kaleb Olejniczak base hit.

Unfortunately for Perry (7-15, 4-6), three runs were scored in the bottom of the inning, four more in the fifth and one in the sixth by Boone (18-3, 10-1) to end the game early.

Garrido had two hits for the Bluejays, with Kade VanKirk, Kyle Nevitt, Adan Medina, Brandon Kenyon, Long and Olejniczak adding one hit apiece.

Nevitt took the loss, yielding 12 runs on 10 hits and four walks. He hit one batter and struck out four.

Perry hosts Knoxville Friday. A special presentation will be made before the game as Bluejay head coach Mike Long is honored for recently winning his 700th career game. Long is fifth on the list of active coaches in total wins and is 18th all-time in Iowa.
