The Boone Community Theatre (BCT) will present William Shakespeare’s Scottish tragedy, “Macbeth,” at Herman Park Pavilion on Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

The BCT’s production of this chilling story of ambition and murder will bring audiences live theatre with the social distancing and ambiance of outdoor seating.

Drew Zahn of Perry, who claims descent from Shakespeare, has adapted the play for a modern audience and co-directs the play with Christopher Levi, who said Zahn “gently” adapted the bard’s language the BCT cast and audience.

“Drew did an excellent job of maintaining Shakespeare’s poetic style and preserving the integrity of the play’s iconic speeches,” Levi said, “but swapping out archaic language that clouds or confuses the plot for modern audiences. Some thees and thous are gone, but this BCT adaptation is nonetheless the same tale of a Scottish lord and the wicked ambition that drove him to his doom.”

Zahn also plays the role of Donalbain, with Debi Zahn playing Lady Macbeth, Matthias Zahn as Malcolm, and Timothy Zahn as Fleance.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and those 65 or older and are available at the BCT website. The Herman Park Pavilion is located at 621 S. Greene St. in Boone.

Tickets will also be available at the park but may be limited by social distancing guidelines. Masks are recommended until patrons are seated. Those within 25 feet of the stage are strongly encouraged to wear masks throughout the performance.
