Boone County livestock barn burns Monday

A livestock barn caught fire in Boone County Monday afternoon in the Woodward Fire District, bringing four area firefighting agencies to the scene.

The rural fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. at 1167 280th St. about six miles west of Luther.

The Woodward Volunteer Fire Department responded, with mutual aid from the Bouton Volunteer Fire Department, Ogden Volunteer Fire Department and Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

The lowing of distressed cattle inside the 101-year-old barn was audible from the roadway.

The property is owned by Jeffery and Annette Westberg, according to Boone County records.

The cause of the blaze in under investigation at this hour.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office also responded.
