Bouton Fire Captain happens by house fire Thursday morning

By a stroke of good luck, Bouton Fire Captain Karl Harris was passing by the house at 116 W. Fourth St. in Bouton Thursday morning when he noticed it was on fire.

Harris reported the structure fire at 9:40 a.m. at the home of Paul Daggett and Lisa Daggett, who were at work at the time of the blaze.

Their pet dog was in the house and was rescued, according to Harris. The 13-year-old pet was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by Dallas County EMS paramedics Molli Loyd and Ken Buelt. He received penicillin and a steroid, and his condition is guarded, according to Dallas County EMS Director Mike Thomason.

The cause of the fire in under investigation at this hour. It appeared to be confined to the roof of the structure, which was built in 1994.

The Bouton Volunteer Fire Department, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS responded to the incident.
