Boys All-WCAC cage teams released

The boys basketball season ended weeks ago for both Woodward-Granger and Panorama, but postseason honors for both have finally been made available.

W-G sophomore Bryce Achenbach was named to the 2A All-Substate 8 Team, and was also chosen for All-West Central Activities Conference First Team honors, while fellow Hawk sophomore Keith Braunschweig and senior J.P. Nixon were both selected for honorable mention recognition.

Panorama junior Gracen Wellberg was an All-WCAC Second Team pick, with freshman Zac Rizzuti and sophomore Luke South each named as Honorable Mention.

Achenbach scored 221 points and pulled down 97 rebounds for per-game averages of 12.3 and 5.4, respectively. He shot 27-of-62 (43.5 percent) beyond the 3-point line while making 99 assists, coming away with 36 steals and having 14 blocks.Braunschweig averaged 13.1 points and 3.7 boards per outing and had 26 assists and nine blocks while Nixon averaged 4.8 points and 3.7 caroms per game, with 31 steals and a 10-of-30 result on 3-point shots.

All W-G statistics are for WCAC games only; the following Panorama numbers are from all games, as a conference breakdown was not available.

Those figures had Wellberg scoring 283 points (12.9 ppg) while clearing 129 boards (5.9 rpg). He had 37 assists, 42 steals and 18 blocks.

Rizzuti finished with averages of 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest while totaling 17 assists and 31 steals, with 24 assists and 17 steals provided by South, who scored at an 8.6 points per game while grabbing 4.5 caroms per outing.

W-G finished 15-10 overall, falling one win short of the state tournament. Panorama was 6-16 overall, with the Hawks 9-9 in WCAC while the Panthers were 4-14.
