Bulldogs silence Hawks early, cruise to easy victory

WOODWARD — Undefeated Van Meter lambasted Woodward-Granger, 75-39, in WCAC boys basketball Friday, setting the stage for the one-sided waltz with a dominating first quarter.

W-G (8-7, 6-7) was held scoreless for over eight minutes and faced a 19-0 deficit after one quarter of action. The Hawks missed their first 13 shots of the game, seven of which were blocked by the Bulldog defense.

Van Meter (14-0, 12-0) moved into a 39-17 lead at the intermission and stood on the far side of a 62-28 gulf after three periods.

Bryce Achenbach had 10 points for W-G, with Keith Braunschweig adding eight points and Noah Hoyt seven. Six points from Alex Bice, five from Reese Jamison, two from J.P. Nixon and one from Jack Grell capped the W-G scoring list.

Achenbach had five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, with Bice, Jamison and Braunschweig making two assists apiece.

Statistics from Van Meter were not available.

W-G visits Ogden Tuesday before host Madrid Friday.
