Bulldogs use 11-run inning to shock Hawks in WCC baseball

GRANGER — For three innings everything was going Woodward-Granger’s way. The Hawks had scored four times in the bottom of the first and added another tally in the second for a 5-0 lead over visiting Van Meter.

Then the Bulldogs went rabid, scoring 11 times in the top of the fourth to stake themselves to an 11-5 lead. Each team scored in the sixth, but four additional Van Meter runs in the top of the seventh helped create a 16-6 WCC win for the Bulldogs.

Brady Aunspach allowed eight runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks in 4-2/3 innings on the hill. He struck out four while being charged with the loss.

Ben Krehbiel was tagged for four runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks in two innings of relief, with Dylan Garland yielding four runs on four hits in one-third of a frame.

Race Brant had two hits for the hosts, with Alex Bodermann, Marcus McConahay, Austin Scharlau, Tre Loge and Aunspach adding base hits. Bodermann scored twice, with McConahay, Brant, Scharlau and Loge also crossing the dish.

Bodermann walked twice and stole two bases, with Brant driving in two runs while McConahay, Garland and Jordan Pierce also provided RBIs.

W-G hosts Ogden tonight and visits Madrid Thursday before taking both Friday and Saturday off.
