Bunny braves blustering winds, rain to bring spring greetings

Perry Volunteer Fire Department Station Chief Brian Eiteman, left, staged a visit by the Hy-Vee Easter Bunny Sunday afternoon in Pattee Park.

Easter Sunday’s light rains and gusty winds did not prevent the Easter Bunny from his appointed rounds, including greeting children from a safe distance in Pattee Park on behalf of the Perry Hy-Vee.

Perry Volunteer Fire Department Station Chief Brian Eiteman rolled out the big ladder truck in order to help draw attention to the long-eared nibbler, who twitched his whiskers happily when cars drove by filled with waving youngsters.

Spring is also the season for flocking flamingos, such as the long-legged crew that gathered outside a residence on Willis Avenue at W. Fifth Street Sunday afternoon. Like Perry’s equally familiar turkey vultures, the flamingos flock wherever it pleases them and regardless of social-distancing guidance from public health authorities.
