A burn ban will take effect at midnight Sunday in Greene County, which is in a Extreme Drought condition.

JEFFERSON, Iowa — Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams announced Sunday that a burn ban will take effect at midnight Sunday in Greene County.

Under the burn ban, no open burning of any kind will be allowed in the county, Williams said. The ban will be in effect until further notice, he said.

Williams said rural residents may continue to use burn barrels for disposing household waste, but all open burning is prohibited.
