Business conducted at annual Delta Kappa Gamma convention

The Upsilon State Organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its annual state convention June 8-9 at the West Marriott in West DesMoines. Women educators from across the state conducted their meeting under the leadership of state president Karen Dole.

State officers and committee chairmen met Friday evening for a meeting and planning session. After dinner Friday evening and and again on Saturday morning, there were training sessions for incoming chapter presidents, membership chairs, Educational Excellence chairs, secretaries and treasurers.

Before and after lunch on Saturday, Upsilon State Organization business was conducted during the General Session. Special events during the two days included workshops, project displays, the Founders Day celebration during the birthday luncheon, Presidents’ March, a Ceremony of Remembrance for deceased members and a banquet ending the convention at which many individuals were honored.

Workshop topics included mental health in Iowa, countering human trafficking in Iowa, cyber security, greeting card crafting, West End Salvage and STEM vs STEAM.

Keynote speaker for the Friday evening dinner was Jill Friestad-Tate, author of  “Write Your Story.” June Bowers, member-at-large from the International Administrative Board, was the special guest and speaker during the General Session and at the Saturday evening banquet.

Ten members were recognized for 50 years of membership, including Clarice Ross of Perry.
