AMES — The Panorama girls track team has continued to maintain a hectic slate, with the Panthers competing Monday at the ISU Indoor after taking part in the Buena Vista Indoor Saturday.

The 70-team unclassed meet was the third of the indoor season for the Panthers, who participated in 11 of the 12 events. Of those, Panorama placed in the top eight in five events and in the top 17 in nine of their 11 entrants.

“These girls had heavy legs from their full day of competition at BVU two days earlier, but they competed and battled well,” head coach Greg Thompson said. “All of the girls do the unnoticeable things such as icing, stretching, warming up, cooling down and eating healthy to be at the level that are.”

“Without working on hand offs and block starts very much, they still managed to do those things very well at this meet,” he added. “Experience, effort and attitude plays a big part in their success right now. They are definitely rising to the theme for the year of MORE (Meet Opportunity, Rise Every time).”

Four new school indoor meet records were set in Ames, with Ella Waddle taking more than 10 seconds of her own standard in the 1500 with a clocking of 5 minutes, 12.07 seconds, a time which placed 11th. Teammate Brooklyn Behrends also ran in the event, crossing in 5:48.91.

Bailey Beckman, Morgan Johnk, Kassidy Bremer and Gwen Steffen set a school indoor record in the sprint medley by finishing sixth in 1:58.78. The old record of 2:00.39, set by Ashley Blome, Morgan McDermott, Amy Clark and Jaclynn Wienke in 2001.

Beckman, Johnk, Bremer and Hope Arganbright’s eighth-place 53.19 in the 4×100 reset the school standard of 53.27 established in 2005 by Lindsie Leib, Sarah Tighe, Ashley Keys and Whitney Sayre.

The final new standard came in the 4×400 when Beckman, Olivia and Gwen Steffen and Shey Storesund combined for a 4:19.47. The prior mark of 4:23.14 was set three years ago by Beckman, Michelle Mleynek, Devyn Kemble and Faith Powell.

The 4×800 finished 17th in 10:55.35, with Olivia Steffen, Payton Beckman, Lydia Lindstrom and Waddle handling the task.

Bremer and Bailey Beckman were 7-8 in the long jump with distances of 15 feet, 7-3/4 inches and of 15’9-1/2. Claire Woodworth was 13th in the shot put at 33’9, with Knapp 44th at 30’2 while Johnk cleared 5’2 for sixth overall in the high jump.

Johnk was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.78 seconds, with Storesund crossing in 10.65. Payton Douglass and Ashley Brown ran the 60 dash in 9.19 and 9.21, with Lisa Fett and Angel Poldberg running the 800 in 2:52.54 and 2:54.75.

Panorama is slated to compete Friday at the Graceland Indoor in Lamoni.
