EARLHAM — Class 2A No. 15 Earlham ripped 13 hits while holding guest Woodward-Granger to only three base runners in posting a 10-0 five-inning win Tuesday in WCAC softball.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

The Cardinals scored once in their first at-bat and three times in their second to jump to an early lead. Two tallies in each of the next two frames and single runs in the following pair of stanzas ended the game early.

Emma Jensen had three hits and Alexis Bean a single and double for Earlham (8-5, 4-4).

Kelsey Tibbs threw three frames, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two. Madeline Janssen fanned five in three quick innings of relief.

Chloe Houge had started the game for W-G (1-15, 0-6) by drawing a base on balls, but consecutive strikeouts and a ground out left Houge on third, where she had advanced on two passed balls.

Trailing 6-0, the Hawks tried mounting a rally in the fourth. Katelyn Bandstra and Emma Anderson each reached on singles to start the frame and chase Tibbs in exchange for Janseen in the circle.

A double-steal pushed the runners up a base, but Janssen induced an infield pop out and then consecutive strikeouts to snuff the rally.

W-G hosts Panorama for a WCAC varsity doubleheader Thursday.
