Services for Carl Schnoor, 98, of Perry will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Visitation, with family receiving friends, will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at the Murdock Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.
Carl Schnoor was born on a farm south of Perry May 31, 1920, the second of three children of John and Anna Schnoor.
He grew up on the farm and attended Gardner Consolidated School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Perry High School in 1937, the University of Iowa College of Engineering in 1943 and the University of Iowa College of Law in 1948.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then had a career in civil engineering for 58 years. He was the county engineer in Cedar, Allamakee and Keokuk counties and then became the Boone County Engineer for 25 years.
Carl was also a farmer and had a private land surveying business.
Carl was a professional engineer and had a Juris Doctorate. He served one term as president of the Iowa Association of County Engineers.
He was a member of the Iowa Nut Growers Association and was instrumental in establishing the Iowa Arboretum.
Carl was a Mason and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Perry.
Carl was united in marriage to Harriett Jensen in March 1953. They have three daughters and their husbands, Sue and Al Omestad, Jane and Roy Swain and Loraine and Michael Wallace; and one son, John Schnoor. They also have six grandchildren, David Omestad, Benjamin Swain, Michelle Yocum, Chase Wallace, Ellie Wallace and Anne Wallace; and one great-grandchild, Celia Swain.
Carl was proceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Harriett; his parents, John and Anna Schnoor; and his sisters, Marie Crews and Loanna Bloethe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Public Library in Carl’s name.
