A crew of two dozen worked Sunday afternoon to prepare the St. Patrick Catholic Church for new carpeting.
Bearing box-end wrenches and flat-head screwdrivers, the workers first unbolted and moved about 40 pews to the rear of the church before removing fixtures from the altar, choir loft and other carpeted areas.
The effort was led by the Rev. Luis Mejia and a contingent of Knights of Columbus, with able assistance from about a dozen young men with strong backs.
The carpeting will be laid early next week, and then the separated items will be reattached to their rightful places.
