WOODWARD — Visiting AC/GC controlled the line of scrimmage of both sides of the ball Friday, rushing for 438 yards and seven touchdowns on 46 carries to overwhelm Woodward-Granger, 62-6, in non-district football.
The Chargers led, 7-0, after one quarter and entered halftime holding a 28-0 lead.
W-G scored in the third quarter when quarterback Carter Moran scored on a sneak from one yard out.
Unfortunately for the hosts AC/GC (2-0) added a pair of touchdowns in the stanza to lead, 42-6, entering the fourth period. The Chargers tacked on an additional 20 points in the final frame to complete the scoring.
Moran was 6-of-23 for 116 yards through the air, connecting with Brody Nardini (2-56), Dane Polich (2-41), Dylan McCaulley (1-11) and Dustin Harney (1-8). Peyton Nixon was 0-2 passing for the Hawks, who fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The W-G ground game was limited to 36 total yards on 19 runs. Harney had 26 yards on eight totes and Moran 15 on seven carries, with Oliver Potter (2-3), Holden Heard (1-2) and Nixon 1 (-10) also taking handoffs.
Harney’s eight tackles led the W-G defense, with Moran making seven stops and Dylan Rodgers six.
The AC/GC attack was led by tailback Gavin Cornelison, with the 5-11, 220-pound senior bulling for 246 yards and four scores on 18 carries. He had 214 yards and a score on 33 hauls in a 29-27 win over Greene County in week one.
Cayden Jensen (9-75), Charlie Crawford (7-53), and Seth Reno (3-9) all scored on the ground as well while Anthony Solorzano had two yards on one run. Quarterback Brock Littler added 53 rush yards on eight runs. His only pass attempt fell incomplete.
Hayden Tunink fell on a Hawk fumble for a TD, with Mike Fuller returning a fumble 20 yards for another score.
W-G will entertain a familiar foe in Interstate-35 Friday, with AC/GC hosting Des Moines Christian for their Homecoming contest. Both games are non-district.
