Chargers jolt visiting Hawks in WCAC net action

GUTHRIE CENTER — Freed at last from COVID-19 quarantine, the AC/GC volleyball played played for the first time Thursday, besting visiting Woodward-Granger, 3-0, in WCAC action.

The Chargers claimed the victory on scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-23. W-G drops to 3-11 overall and to 1-2 in WCAC play with the loss.

W-G served 56-of-62 (90.3 percent) with seven aces in the match.

Audrey Simmons was 10-of-13 with two aces, with Natalie Weaver 9-11-2 and both Faith Keuhl and Grace Deputy 9-9-1. Darby Nixon was 6-6-1 behind the line, with Elly Polich 11-of-11 and Brayten Ashman 2-of-3.

Polich had seven kills, Simmons and Weaver four apiece and Ashman one. Simmons distributed 14 assists, Polich five, Weaver three, and Nixon two.

Weaver had a team-best 14 digs and Polich 11, with Nixon coming away with nine digs. Simmons had seven digs, Keuhl three, and Deputy one. Ashman and Deputy each made a solo block at the net.

W-G hosts Interstate-35 Tuesday for their only action in the upcoming week.
