A Chariton teenager died late Saturday when his speeding pickup hit a tree as he tried to elude the Iowa State Patrol (ISP).

Jacob Bryan Fereran, 19, was traveling westbound on Country Road G76, according to an ISP crash report, and “trying to elude a marked ISP vehicle with lights and sirens on.”

The report said Fereran’s vehicle “entered New Virginia, ran a stop sign at the intersection of West Street (County Road R45) and continued at a high rate of speed one block.”

When the pickup reached Border Street, one block west of West Street, it “vaulted over Border Street” and “entered into a private yard, where it hit a large tree.”

Fereran was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.

Fereran was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. He was the sole occupant of the pickup.

The Warren County Sheriff’s office and Lucas County Sheriff’s office also responded.
