A good and literate time was had by all Thursday evening at the Perry Public Library's Children's Summer Reading Program Finale, moved from Pattee Park to the library due to rain.

Young readers in the Perry Public Library’s Summer Reading Program left their lawn chairs and blankets at home Thursday evening, when rain changed the venue of the children’s Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program Finale from Pattee Park to the library’s community room.

Sprinkles could not dampen the children’s fun, however, as Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel directed the celebrations, and Ken Keffer, outreach coordinator from the Dallas County Conservation Board, engaged the young readers with stories of outdoor adventures and curious artifacts from the natural world.

The bubble blowing and S’mores were postponed, but the grand prize drawings proceeded as planned, with two lucky child readers winning copies of Keffer’s books.

The adult summer reading program will conclude Monday, with a finale Game Night event at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s community room. Readers will play games, enjoy refreshments and take their chances on the grand prize drawings, including an Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet, an overnight stay at Hotel Pattee and $50 in Perry Bucks.

A special grand prize for the Tic-Tac-Toe participants will be a flight around the Perry area with Walter Aviation. For more information, call the library at 515-465-3569.
