The annual Dallas County Christmas Bird Count will be held Saturday, Dec 18, with local birders taking “snapshots” of the birds in the area and sending the resulting information to the National Audubon Society for analysis of population trends.
Dallas County Conservation Naturalist Mike Havlik, who coordinates the annual event, said said the Christmas Bird Count will need volunteers counting both in the field and at bird feeders.
“Documenting the birds seen at your feeders on that Saturday would be a wonderful contribution to the count,” Havlik said. “People often observe birds that are missed in the field.”
Both beginning and experienced birders are invited to participate in the annual count. Registration is required by calling 515-465-3577.
