The Friends of the Dallas Center Pool raised $4,600 Saturday with a Polar Plunge challenge, moving the needle on the $3.2 million pool project.

The Polar Plunge, held in conjunction with Dallas Center’s Hometown Christmas events, saw several Dallas Center City Councilpersons and another Dallas Center dignitaries commit to taking the plunge in Saturday’s 20-degree weather for each $1,000 raised by the Friends committee.

Stripping down and stepping up to take the plunge were Dallas Center City Council members Danny Beyer, Ryan Kluss and David Bagby and Dallas Center Fire Chief Joel Hofland.

The nonprofit Friends of the Dallas Center Pool group has gained momentum over the last few months, landing a private donation of $40,000 and other commitments that bring the grand total to about $100,000.

The old Dallas Center pool, which is enjoyed by many people from surrounding communities, has far exceeded its lifespan, Friends say, and repairs continue to increase every year.

Volunteers for the Friends of the Dallas Center Pool committee or donors are encouraged to learn more about the project on the Friends’ Facebook page.
