The westbound lane of Willis Avenue is closed between First Avenue and Second Street for Saturday's BRR Bike Ride to Rippey.

The Perry City Hall issued this public service announcement Friday regarding the BRR Ride:

Perry’s 43rd Annual BRR Ride, or Bike Ride to Rippey, is Saturday, Feb. 1. This event can draw more than 1,000 riders into town from all across Iowa and surrounding states. With increased bike traffic, community members are asked to be aware, be patient and share the road.

The westbound lane of Willis Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between First Avenue and Second Street starting at 7 a.m. The official start time of the ride is 10 a.m., and riders will travel north on Second Street through the downtown area before detouring onto Third Street via Bateman Street.

The bike route continues on Third Street to Park Street and then on to Iowa Highway 144, then along County Road P54 and County Road E57 into Rippey. The bulk of the riders is expected to return to Perry from 1-4 p.m.

In addition to bringing visitors to town, this annual tradition is also a great fundraiser for the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the organization that brings you Friday Fests, the Fourth of July Celebration, Farmers Market, Spooktacular, Lighted Parade and many other events throughout the year. For more information on the ride, visit the official BRR Bike Ride to Rippey website.
