Clarice Ross started celebrating her 106th birthday, which is March 17, a little early this year thanks to a party thrown by her friends and well wishers Thursday afternoon at the Rowley Masonic Community.
Among the partygoers was Ross’ son, Gary Ross of Perry, by comparison a mere stripling at 82. He celebrated his birthday March 9.
Clarice still enjoys getting her hair done of a Thursday, but she was saddened this year with the closing of the Mars Dairy Bar, where she liked to eat their broasted chicken.
Clarice’s many friends and former coworkers among Perry’s ranks of retired school teachers are still aiming to help shower Clarice with birthday greetings with help from the local community. Cards can be directed to Clarice Ross, P.O. Box 578, Perry, IA 50220.
Sharing in the birthday festivities Thursday was Ivan Winger of Perry, also a Rowley resident. The Ides of March marked the 80th anniversary of Winger’s birth. With half-a-dozen ladies sharing his table, Winger has plainly lost none of his attractions.
Irish sing-along songs and green-themed cupcakes were among the festivities at the party.
