David Cameron Washburn, 25, of Aurora, Colorado, was arrested Monday on charges of two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

A Denver-area man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly assaulting a Madrid couple at the KOA Campground on County Road P58 about two miles north of U.S. Interstate 80.

David Cameron Washburn, 25, of 6013 S. Perth St., Aurora, Colorado, was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 4:45 a.m. Monday in the 34300 block of L Avenue in rural Adel, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of a fight at the KOA Campground.

The deputies made contact with Washburn and his female cabin mate. Washburn “denied any physical altercation” occurred, and the female cabin mate “denied observing the physical altercation,” according to court records.

The deputies made contact with the male victim and the female victim, who said “that they had been hanging out” in the cabin with Washburn and the female cabin mate when Washburn allegedly “got upset and pushed” the male victim “out the door” of the cabin, where he “ended up on the floor of the front porch,” and Washburn allegedly “was on top of” the male victim with “his hand around” the male victim’s “throat,” according to court records.

The female victim “then attempted to intervene,” and Washburn allegedly “pushed her into the wall on the front porch,” where “her forehead hit the wall,” according to court records.

The female victim told the deputies that “she experienced pain in her back” after she “made contact with the wall,” and she “then walked off the porch and ended up on the ground due to the pain,” according to court records.

The female cabin mate “advised that the altercation started because ‘boundaries were pushed in a sense of sexual relations’ and Washburn allegedly ‘got irritated,'” according to court records.

The deputies observed “three horizontal red marks on the right rib cage of” the male victim. The deputies observed that the female victim “did not have any visible marks but experienced pain in her back after the impact with the wall,” according to court records.

Washburn was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing in Dallas County District Court.
