Colorado man arrested after reportedly waving gun downtown

Perry Police Department Officers responded Thursday night to a report of a man waving a gun in the 1300 block of Second Street in downtown Perry.

Jeremiah Mathew Messner, 29, of Denver Colorado, was arrested Thursday night on a charge of public intoxication.

A report of a man waving a gun in the theater brought a rapid response Thursday night from officers of the Perry Police Department.

A second caller said the gun was possibly a toy and the man was shirtless and in front of a store in the 1300 block of Second Street.

Officers responded about 8:15 p.m. and promptly detained the man in a patrol vehicle, where he could be heard shouting and screaming as if distraught.

Jeremiah Mathew Messner, 29, of 1900 Willow St., Denver, Colorado, was charged with public intoxication. Additional charges are pending, according to the Perry Police Department.

Messner was arrested Sept. 22 on charges of public intoxication and interference with official acts. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court. He was charged with first-offense consumption of alcohol in a public place in February 2020, but the charge was dismissed in August in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of disorderly conduct in 2017 in Dallas County District Court.
