More than 1,000 people gathered in the Perry High School gymnasium Sunday evening for a vigil on behalf Daisy Gavidia, 15, and Walter Gavidia, 13, the Jamaica siblings who died in Thursday’s tragic car crash near Perry, and their sister Edlyn Gavidia, 17, who remains in intensive care.

The solemn assembly shared a minute of silence at the start of the vigil, which was led by the Rev. David Sixtos-Villa of the Church of God Pentecostal I.M. Potters House in Des Moines. The pastor shared with his congregation a Bible verse from 1 Thessalonians chapter 4:

“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”
