All good things must come to an end, and so it is with the tenure of residency of one well known Perry couple. On Sunday the Perry First United Methodist Church hosted a farewell reception for longtime members Duane and Linda Griffin.
During the service, Duane Griffin performed a solo and sang the Thomas A. Dorsey hymn, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” as a farewell gift to the congregation. He was accompanied by Bertha Mae Van Horn on the piano.
After the service, the Griffins were honored with a cake made by First United Methodist Church member Marilyn Pentico. They also enjoyed homemade ice cream, cards and many well wishes.
After many years of planning, the Griffins will be moving to Waseca, Minn., on July 23. They will be moving closer to their daughter and her family.
Linda and Duane each moved to Perry in 1978. They met during orientation at Woodward Resource Center and were married in 1980.
Linda recently retired from the Woodward Resource Center April 11 after more than 37 years of service.
The Griffins have a daughter, Faith (Cory) Nutz, and two grandchildren, Blake and Leah, who reside in St. Louis Park, Minn.
They also have a son, Aaron (Mandy) Griffin, and a grandson, Wesley, who live in Georgetown, Texas.
