The 2021 International Women’s Day (IWD) coffee conference in Perry has been cancelled due to COVID-19, organizers of the March event announced Thursday.

“Months back I figured more than likely we would cancel due to the pandemic,” said Carol Jackson Cavanaugh, who spearheaded the first Perry IWD event in 2018. “Numbers are down, but we can’t let our guards down yet!”

Marked annually on March 8, IWD is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, Jackson Cavanaugh said. IWD is not specific to any country, group or organization but belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

“I’d like to keep the IWD spirit alive and remind people we plan to carry on with the tradition in 2022,” she said.
