Craig Douglas McDowell, 64, of Des Moines passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Rippey Cemetery in Rippey, Iowa.
Born on Feb. 27, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, Craig was the son of J. D. and Janice (Challands) McDowell.
He worked for 29 years as a shipping clerk at EFCO Corp. in Des Moines.
Craig was a quiet, gentle soul with a passion for trains, particularly model railroading. He loved watching trains pass by and anything related to them.
He also enjoyed cruising, watching western movies and spending time with family and friends, even if just for brief visits.
Craig was known for always having a soda in hand and would often call his family when the Kansas City Chiefs would play.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Dennis.
Craig is survived by his brother, David (Christine) McDowell of Ogden; his niece, Mackenzie (Justin) Peterson, and their sons, Emmett and Rhett; his nephew, Garrett (Katie Peterson) McDowell of Boone; and his aunts, Sharon Laub of Rippey, Virginia Wernli of Norwalk and Mary Jane McDowell of Texas.
