Cross country teams given state qualifying assignments

Harriers from across Iowa have been informed of where they will need to shine in order to advance to the state cross country meet, as qualifier sites have been announced.

In Class 3A Perry will run in Atlantic, where Jayette sophomore Jaylene Karolus will be aiming for a repeat appearance in Fort Dodge at the final meet. Joining Perry and the hosts will be ADM, Atlantic, Boone, Carlisle, Creston, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Greene County (boys), Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, North Polk and Saydel.

Panorama is hosting one of the 2A qualifying meets. The girls team will be seeking a return trip to Kennedy Park after placing second (in 1A) in 2017 and seventh in 2A last year. Junior Ella Waddle was sixth overall as a freshman and fifth as a sophomore.

Joining the Panthers will be AC/GC, Albia, Central Decatur, Chariton, Clarinda, Des Moines Christian, Emmetsburg, Greene County (girls), Missouri Valley, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Treynor, Underwood and West Central Valley.

Woodward-Granger will travel east for their 1A meet, joining 27 other teams in a crowded field at Marshalltown. The Hawks will be seeking a first-time appearance for the program at the state meet.

All classes will run their state qualifying meets Oct. 25. Perry and Panorama will both begin running at 4 p.m. while W-G’s meet in Marshalltown is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
