Anyone needing to satisfy their “cute quotient” need have looked no farther than the Perry Elementary School Friday evening. The event began at 6:30 p.m. and concluded at 8:30 p.m.
The PES gym and cafeteria was the site for the Junior Class Prom Committee fundraising “Daddy-Daughter Dance” open to girls pre-k through fifth grade and their dates, in this case a father, uncle, grandfather, older brother or other male guardian. An unofficial tally showed “fathers” were, by a wide margin, the most prevalent adult partner. While official numbers were not released, the crowd was likely near, if not over, the 200 mark.
Junior Skylar Cunningham provided the DJ services, while other juniors — along with some parental help — ran the admissions table and operated a refreshment stand featuring baked goods, candy and cool drinks in the Multi-Purpose Room (cafeteria).
American Bandstand, Soul Train and Solid Gold had nothing on the dancers grooving to the beats in the gym. Fortunately the floor is not carpeted, else the rug-cutting would have done substantial damage.
The Electric Slide and Hokey-Pokey were popular breaks from today’s hits, which had most of the girls — if not always their dads — showing off their dance moves.
However, it required little cajoling from their daughters to coax the good ol’ dad onto the dance floor, where all were clearly having a great time.
