A Dallas Center man was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly pointed his pistol at his 14-year-old son in the course of an argument.

David Wayne Burkett, 54, of 25470 260th St., Dallas Center, was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and child endangerment.

The incident began about 6 p.m. in the 25400 block of 260th Street in rural Dallas Center,  where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff responded to a report from a woman, who said her son told her “that his father, David Burkett, pointed a firearm at him earlier in the night while being intoxicated,” according to court records.

The victim told the deputy “that him and his father had been in an argument concerning the family dog,” when Burkett allegedly “entered the room and took the gun out of the holster and then pointed the gun at” the victim “for approximately two seconds” while also “yelling at him,” according to court records.

Burkett “then reholstered the gun, and the altercation ended,” according to court records.

Burkett told the deputy “that he was taking his gun and his holster off while lecturing” the victim” and when he removed the gun, “he held the gun in the general direction of” the victim “while continuing to lecture him” and then “reholstered the gun and put the gun away,” according to court records.

Burkett was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $2,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 28 in Dallas County District Court.
