The Iowa Democratic Party announced Friday the postponement of county conventions scheduled for March 21, but the Dallas County Republican Party will hold its county convention as scheduled Saturday, March 14 in the Waukee Middle School at 905 S. Warrior Lane in Waukee.
The GOP convention proceedings will begin at 8 a.m. and are expected to conclude by noon or 1 p.m.
A party statement released Friday said food and drink would not be provided at the event out of concern for the spread of COVID-19.
“Out of an abundance of caution because of the coronavirus, please greet each other with a smile and not a handshake or a hug,” the statement recommended.
GOP children ages 12 to 17 will participate in a Junior Delegate process, with Dallas County Supervisor Mark Hanson work with the youth to help them understand the convention process and to develop policy planks they would like to see considered by the convention.
As of Friday, Iowa had 17 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
