August 7, 2020

  • Cassandra L. Burkett, 24, of 6840 Chaffee Road, Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for failure To appear on an original charge of driving under suspension.
  • An single vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of 190th Street and W Ave. Danielle Boyd, Grimes, traveled through a stop sign and through the intersection, coming to rest in the ditch. Ms. Boyd’s vehicle sustained approximately $8000 in damage and she was transported to Methodist West hospital by Granger EMS. She was also cited for Failure To Provide Proof of Financial Liability – accident, Failure To Maintain Control, and Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
  • Jason Cerveny of Jefferson was traveling eastbound on Iowa Highway 141 near I Court when his vehicle struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to Cerveny’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

August 8, 2020

  • Charles D. Hodges, 20, of 579 Stone Creek Court West Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault.
  • Blake Jans of Perry was traveling in the 1400 block of 130th Street near Dawson when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the ditch and overturned. No injuries were reported. Damage to Jans’ vehicle was estimated at $15,000.
  • A semi-tractor trailer, driven by Dennie Briggs of Lennon, Michigan, was struck by a vehicle driven by Ronaldo Tomas Alvarado of Omaha, Nebraska, near the 99 mile marker of U.S. Interstate 80. No injuries were reported. Damage to Briggs’ vehicle was estimated at $20, and damage to Alvarado’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500. Alvarado was issued a citation for improper lane change.

August 9, 2020

  • Cody D. Laird, 27, of 1007 W. Third Ave, Indianola, was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court on an original charge of violation of a no-contact order.

August 10, 2020

  • Jerry E. Miller, 36, of 504 S. Pocahontas St., Ottumwa, was arrested on a warrant on an original charge was third-degree forgery, identity theft, fraudulent practice.
  • David Irwin of Grimes was traveling westbound in the 17000 block of 240th Street when a tree fell across the road during a storm. Irwin was unable to stop his vehicle, which struck the downed tree and sustained damages estimated at $10,000 damage. No injuries were reported.
  • Charles White of Belle Plaine was traveling near the 102 mile marker of U.S. Interstate 80 when he experienced trouble controlling his semi during a severe storm with strong winds. As White tried to regain control, White’s vehicle was cut off by another unknown vehicle, causing him to make contact with the cable barriers near the median. Damage to White’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000, and damage to the cable barriers was estimated at $2,000. No injuries were reported.
