- A vehicle driven by Ben Nelson of Grimes was stopped at the intersection of Sugar Grove Avenue and 11th Street in Dallas Center and was waiting to turn left when it was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Karmen Smith of Johnston, whose vehicle was in turn struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Nicole Pitts of Grimes, whose vehicle was in turn struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Cody Cook of Bloomfield. It was determined that Cook, who was driving west on Sugar Grove Avenue, did not stop in time and struck Pitts’ vehicle, which caused the chain reaction. No injuries were reported. Damage to Nelson’s vehicle estimated was at $5,000, to Smith’s was estimated at $6,000, to Pitts’ was estimated at $9,000 and to Cook’s was estimated at $4,000. Cook was issued a citation for failure to stop in assured clear distance.
