David Keith Blaisdell passed away March 8, 2024, while in hospice care at Carnegie Village in Belton, Missouri, after a long illness.
David was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Perry, Iowa, to Alice Maxine (Lindsay) Blaisdell and Albert Melvin (Buddy) Blaisdell.
David graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1964.
Shortly after his graduation, David enlisted in the U.S. Army and did his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was selected for technical training as an aircraft equipment repairman at the Air Training Command (ATC) school at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois.
After serving in the military, David settled in Kansas City, Missouri, where he enrolled at Rockhurst University. He later completed certification training to become an inhalation therapist and worked at hospitals in Kansas City.
It was in Kansas City where David met and married the love of his life, Mary F. Hill. To that union were born a daughter, Lindsay, and a son, Mickel.
David had many and varied interests, including spending time in nature, studying philosophy and religion, gourmet cooking and fly fishing. He was always seeking to learn new things, and as a result he acquired a vast knowledge on a variety of topics.
One of his favorite pastimes was engaging in thoughtful conversations with others. As part of those chats, David would often site one or more books he had read on the topics and would heartily recommend them.
He was such a generous person that he often would go out of his way to find those books and give them to friends and family as well as other special gifts he had personally selected for them.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary, in 2008.
He is survived by daughter, Lindsay; son, Mickel; two grandsons; his faithful friends, Ed Schmid and Cathy Crist; and several cousins.
He is buried in the military cemetery at Ft. Leavenworth in Leavenworth, Kansas.
