During his 2016 visit to Perry, Congressman David Young, right, was welcomed by, from left, Dr. Steven Sohn, chief of medicine at the Dallas County Hospital, Perry Mayor Jay Pattee and Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson.

Congressman David Young, who represents Iowa’s third district in the U.S. House of Representatives, will host Open Office Hours in Perry Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 2-4 p.m. at the McCreary Community Building, 1800 Pattee St.

“Being an elected official is about accessibility, listening and acting in the best interest of the people you are honored to represent,” Young said in a press release. “These Open Office Hours serve as an additional resource for my bosses who want to petition their government, or seek assistance with government red tape, in person.”

Young, who was first elected in 2014, was one of three Congress members from Iowa who voted May 4 in favor of a bill repealing major elements of the health care law known as Obamacare. Young was joined by fellow Iowans U.S. Rep. Rod Blum and U.S. Rep. Steve King in voting for the House’s American Health Care Act.

If passed, the bill would have caused between 17 million and 24 million Americans to lose their health insurance. The repeal effort failed in the U.S. Senate.

Iowa’s one Democratic member of Congress, U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, voted against the House bill.
