IOWA CITY — Dallas Center-Grimes grappler Zane Mulder recently claimed the Freestyle state championship while finishing second in Greco wrestling at a tournament in Iowa City.

His efforts earn the DC-G junior-to-be the right to advance to the Cadet National Duals in York, Pa., where he will represent Team Iowa. Mulder also moves on to the Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D.

Mulder has already been a standout for the Mustangs, earning spots on the final podium at the state tournament in each of his first two prep seasons. He finished fifth in Class 3A at 113 pounds as a freshman with a record of 43-7 and last year went 38-6 to stand third in 3A at 132 pounds.

He is the son of Zach and Alisha Mulder of Grimes and the grandson of Vicki Van Pelt of rural Granger.
