DES MOINES – The Dallas County Hospital recently saw five new trustees granted certification at the same time the hospital was honored for attaining 100 percent participation from the members of its board of trustees.

The five DCH trustees were among the 61 Iowa hospital trustees graduating from the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) Board Certification Program. The trustees were recognized at the IHA Governance Forum held at the Sheraton Hotel in West Des Moines.

“Every hospital needs engaged, informed and vital board members to function as an integral part of the hospital leadership team,” said Steve Baumert, IHA board member and CEO of Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. “To help make that happen, IHA launched its Board Certification Program in 2010. As of today, more than 150 trustees have completed the program.”

Baumert presented the graduating trustees with certificates. The Dallas County Hospital also received the highest honor of 3 Star Board Participation, meaning 100 percent of the Dallas County Hospital Board of Trustees are now certified.

The Dallas County Hospital Board of Trustees is composed of Tray Wade, Marsha McClintock, Joelle Miner, Mark Meyer, Julie Connolly, Rich Jones and Mary Laborde. Miner, Connolly and Laborde were also recognized for advanced certification at the governance forum.

Through its trustees certification program, the IHA provides a framework to support Iowa hospitals in developing highly effective board members. The goals of the program include:

  • Helping hospitals use governance best practices.
  • Promoting the coordination of care and the best use of resources.
  • Demonstrating to community stakeholders that Iowa hospitals are dedicated to accountability and transparency and are governed at the highest level of excellence.

The IHA is a voluntary membership organization representing hospital and health system interests to business, government and consumer audiences. All of Iowa’s 118 community hospitals are IHA members.
