The Iowa State Patrol has released details about the two-vehicle collision Saturday night involving a Dallas County Sheriff’s office patrol car and a private vehicle as first reported by ThePerryNews.com.
The crash occurred about 9 p.m. near the Washington Township School south of Perry. According to ISP Public Information Officer Trooper Alex Dinkla, Dallas County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Sanchez, 25, was travelling northbound on County Road P58 and approaching County Road F31 with his emergency lights and sirens in operation.
Paul Snyder, 69, of Perry was also northbound on County Road P58 in a GMC Envoy. Snyder apparently turned westbound on County Road F31 when Sanchez’ vehicle was in the process of passing Snyder’s vehicle, and the collision occurred.
There were no injuries in the crash, according to the ISP report.
Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection beside the county recycling bins, the patrol car pointing north and the station wagon pointing south.
The incident is still under investigation, according to Dinkla.
The Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Minburn Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS responded to the incident.
