De Soto man arrested after allegedly throttling De Soto woman

Joseph Paul Markham, 52, of De Soto was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

A De Soto man was arrested Tuesday Monday night after he allegedly throttled a De Soto woman in the home.

Joseph Paul Markham, 52, of 613 Polk St., De Soto, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 600 block of Polk Street, where officers of the De Soto Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with Markham, who told the officers the victim “slapped him across his face,” according to court records.

The officers observed on Markham “no visible marks” on his “face,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Markham allegedly “grabbed the victim’s neck,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “visible red marks on her neck,” according to court records.

Markham is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 31 in Dallas County District Court.
