A vehicle struck a tree and was fully engulfed by fire late Sunday, and it is feared all occupants might have perished in the blaze.

The accident occurred about 11:30 p.m. on W Avenue just south of 240th Street about two miles west of Grimes, according to public safety communications.

The cause of the accident is under investigation at this hour by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.

The vehicle was possibly involved in a high-spreed pursuit with Polk County law enforcement on Iowa Highway 141 into Granger earlier Sunday night. Radio traffic indicated speeds in the chase exceeded 110 mph.
