URBANDALE — A Saturday matinee did not turn out the way either Perry basketball team had hoped for, not by a long shot.

Des Moines Christian took a six-point halftime lead and outscored Perry, 37-22, in the second half for a 79-58 win in the boys game. That followed a contest that can only be stated in a matter-of-fact manner: the Lions won the girls game, 55-8.

Molly Lutmer had seven points and Isabel Saemisch made one free throw for the Jayettes (1-4). Perry trailed, 43-4, at the half.

The DMC girls have played three lopsided contests in a row. The Lions were 60-13 winners over visiting Woodward-Granger Friday, with the win following a 58-20 humbling by host and sixth-ranked Panorama Tuesday.

Perry sophomore Molly Lutmer fires a 3-pointer against Carroll Friday.

Perry (1-2) trailed, 18-17, after one frame in the boys game and were within 42-36 after three periods. DMC (3-0) had a 61-51 advantage to begin the fourth quarter, and put the game away with a 10-0 run to start the stanza.

Whistles blew at a steady rate throughout the game, with Perry called for 26 fouls and DMC 24. The Bluejays finished 16-of-28 at the free throw line while the Lions were 22-of-35.

Isaac Prewett had 28 points for the hosts, with Seth Juhl adding 11 points and Jordan Harris 10.

Drew Levan and Connor Nielsen had 15 points apiece for Perry, with each senior scoring 12 points in the first half. Brandon Kenyon contributed nine points and Tanner Duffy six, with Brendan Ivory adding four points. Three points from Rashon Ivory, two apiece from Devon Booth and Keghan West and free throws from Jacob Huffman and Michael Meyer rounded out the Bluejay scoring.

Perry will visit DC-G Tuesday before hosting Carlisle Friday. Both are girls/boys sets beginning at 6 p.m.
