A Des Moines man allegedly strangled a man in the course of robbing him in a West Des Moines motel early Monday.
Darryl Anthony Hishaw, 26, of 2210 35th St., Des Moines, was charged with second-degree robbery.
According to court records, Hishaw allegedly entered the victim’s motel room at 7665 Office Park Road in West Des Moines about 2:30 a.m. Monday in order to “attempt to get money back from the victim.”
In process of allegedly robbing the victim, Hishaw allegedly “strangled the victim, stating that the victim owed him money.”

The victim, who fled the scene and was located several blocks away, told the officer that he was “not able to breathe while being strangled,” according to court records.
The officer allegedly observed visible injuries to the victim’s throat.
Hishaw is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
Hishaw was convicted of third-degree theft in 2018 in Polk County District Court, fifth-degree theft and removal of theft-protection device in March 2019 in Wapello County District Court and aggravated theft in November 2019 in Polk County District Court.
