Des Moines man arrested for allegedly assaulting wife

Alexander Lee Hand, 27, of Des Moines was arrested early Thursday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-causing bodily injury or mental illness.

A Des Moines man was arrested early Thursday at a West Des Moines motel after allegedly assaulting his wife.

Alexander Lee Hand, 27, of 1501 E. 25th St., Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-causing bodily injury or mental illness.

According to court records, Hand and his wife “did get into an argument” at the Motel 6 at 7655 Office Plaza Dr. in West Des Moines, and Hand allegedly “broke his phone over his knee and then grabbed the victim and shoved her against the wall.”

The victim said Hand “shoved her against the wall and pulled her legs out from under her, causing her to fall.”

Hand said “he held her forcefully against the wall while screaming at her,” according to court records.

A West Des Moines Police Department Officer “observed red marks on the victim’s chest where the victim stated she was pushed and held,” according to court records.

Hand is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
