A Des Moines man was arrested on a Story County warrant Friday in connection with an October incident in Nevada in which he allegedly broke a woman’s arm and wrist and left her with a gash in her head.
Alex Douglas Meyer, 38, of 3812 University Ave., Des Moines, was charged with failure to appear on an original charge of second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.
The incident began Oct. 28, 2024, at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada, where Story County Deputy Sheriffs met with the victim, who told the deputies “that she was pushed to the ground and when she attempted to get back into the vehicle,” Meyer allegedly “drove off, causing her to get multiple lacerations and hitting her head on the ground,” according to court records.
Medical authorities at the Story County Medical Center confirmed the victim sustained “a broken wrist and arm” and “a seven-centimeter laceration on her head,” according to court records.
A warrant for Meyer’s arrest was ordered March 19 in Story County District Court after he failed to appear for a pretrial conference and was served March 21. Meyer was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond.
Meyer was convicted of dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon in 2022 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault in 2019 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of intimidation with a dangerous weapon in 2015 in Polk County District Court.
