Des Moines man pleads guilty for barging into Dawson home

A Des Moines man was arrested for assault Wednesday after allegedly trying to barrel his way into a Dawson home.

Justin Lee Gilliland, 34, of 70 Thayer St., Des Moines, was charged with assault.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 300 block of E. Third Street in Dawson, where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff responded to a report of a person trying to force his way into the residence.

The deputy arrived and made contact with the homeowner victims, who told the deputy “that Justin Gilliland had attempted to force his way into their residence, and an altercation ensued,” according to court records.

The male homeowner said “that Gilliland had tried to ram his way through him at the door and struck him with his shoulder,” according to court records, but the homeowner “was able to keep the suspect out of the residence after having a shoving match.”

The deputy “located Gilliland in a garage behind the house,” where he was taken into custody without further incident. Gilliland “gave a preliminary breath test that was positive for alcohol,” according to court records.

Gilliland was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to entering a plea of guilty Dec. 10 in Dallas County District Court. He was find $105 and a 15% criminal penalty surcharge plus
court costs.
