Des Moines man tosses items while eluding deputy sheriff

Kristopher Lee Robertson, 39, of Des Moines was arrested early Thursday on charges of driving while barred, eluding and improper use of lanes.

A caller’s report of an erratic driver on U.S. Interstate 80 led to the arrest early Thursday of a Des Moines man on a charge of eluding.

Kristopher Lee Robertson, 39, of 4121 Second Ave., Des Moines, did not pull over at the 100 mile marker when signalled to stop by a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff but continued westbound.

“He did throw some items out of the vehicle,” according to Dallas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Adam Infante.

Robertson’s vehicle was eventually stopped at the 84 mile marker of U.S. Interstate 80 in Adair County, and he was arrested at 2:21 a.m. and charged with driving while barred, eluding and improper use of lanes.

The jettisoned items were not recovered, Infante said.

Robertson was booked into the Dallas County Jail and released after posting an $1,800 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for March 14.

Robertson has six prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance: in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010. He was convicted of eluding in 2015 and driving while barred in 2017.

The Adair County Sheriff’s office and Stuart Police Department assisted in the incident.
