Des Moines Area Community Collee President Rob Denson and Kosovo Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Lluka signed an agreement Thursday that paves the way for DMACC training classes in welding and other skilled trades to be offered within the Kosovo Energy Corporation’s (KEK) new facilities in Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo.

The agreement provides for DMACC to work with the ministries in Kosovo to deliver quality career and vocational training to Kosovars in a curriculum that is tailored to meet the specific needs of Kosovo businesses.

The ongoing collaboration between DMACC and the Republic of Kosovo aims to create a new generation of skilled workers, Denson said at the signing ceremony in the DMACC Board Room on the Ankeny Campus.

DMACC will develop the training curriculum and provide faculty to train Kosovar instructors at the KEK facility. The agreement calls for Kosovo to fund the new training initiative.

Earlier this year, Lluka signed a cooperation agreement with the International Finance Corporation, which will advise the government of Kosovo on the development of a 50 MW solar power plant.
