Suzy Fentress of Adel and formerly of Perry, a liberal arts major at the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny, has been named to the 77-member All-Iowa Academic Team.

The honor puts Fentress in the running for scholarships and other opportunities, but the ceremonial awarding of a medal in Washington D.C. in late March will likely be postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fentress has already landed a New Century Transfer Pathway Scholarship after achieving the highest All-USA Academic Team application score in Iowa. The scholarship is open to students planning to transfer to the four-year college after graduation, and each New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar receives special recognition at the American Association of Community Colleges Convention.

Fentress plans transfer to Iowa State University in fall 2020.

All-State Academic Teams are sponsored in 39 U.S. states by the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society of two-year colleges as well as college presidents and state associations. Student rankings on the All-State Academic Teams are generally determined by student scores in the national competition.
